Joaquin Pruitt, an 18-year-old from Oceanside, California, tragically lost his life on June 28, 2005, in a gang-related shooting. Pruitt was not affiliated with any gang, but he became an unintended victim in a violent retaliation. The incident occurred in the Mesa Margarita neighborhood of Oceanside, where Pruitt and his friend, Sean Oates, were targeted by gang members Situe Toluao and Peni Siulua.
