Alfred Henderson, a 47-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was tragically shot and killed on April 22, 2007. The incident occurred in the early morning hours while Henderson and a female companion were standing in front of a relative’s house on Lime Avenue. According to reports, both Henderson and his companion were struck by gunfire. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while his companion, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to a local
hospital and survived the attack.
The investigation into Henderson's murder remained active for several years. On February 27, 2014, Long Beach Homicide Detectives made a significant breakthrough in the case by arresting 28-year-old Darnell Clarke. Clarke was charged with the murder of Alfred Henderson and the attempted murder of Henderson's female companion. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, a gang allegation enhancement, and a use of a firearm enhancement against Clarke. This arrest brought some measure of closure to the case, which had remained unsolved for nearly seven years.
The motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, but the involvement of gang-related activities was suggested by the charges filed. The case highlighted the persistent issue of gang violence in certain areas of Long Beach and the challenges faced by law enforcement in solving such crimes.
