On April 4, 2018, Panha Nhean, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The incident occurred around midnight in the 5300 block of Orange Avenue, where Nhean and two other men were in a converted garage. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers arrived at the scene to find Nhean and another man, Suy Phavong, 52, with gunshot wounds to their torsos.
Phavong was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nhean was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A third man, identified only as a 47-year-old resident of Long Beach, sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his arm and was also taken to the hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect opened fire on the group, but the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Phavong's wife, who was inside the house at the time, heard the gunshots and saw an unidentified man fleeing the scene. She discovered the three victims in the garage shortly after. Investigators have not released detailed information about the suspect, but it is believed that Nhean, who was a taxi driver, may have been the intended target, with the other victims shot to eliminate witnesses.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large. The Long Beach Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in solving the case.
