On June 27, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., 27-year-old Isaac Marshell IV was fatally shot outside a business in the 1000 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, California. Officers arrived to find Marshell suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident began earlier that evening when Marshell was involved in a physical altercation with two male suspects outside the business. After the altercation, Marshell left the scene but later returned in his vehicle and parked in front of the establishment. While inside his vehicle, the same two suspects approached and assaulted him again. During this second altercation, one of the suspects shot Marshell.

Following the shooting, officers apprehended one of the suspects, 24-year-old Darrell Brock, near the crime scene. Brock, a resident of Pennsylvania, was arrested on suspicion of murder and held on $2 million bail.

A second suspect, 33-year-old Carlos Alberto Jimenez Hernandez, was arrested on July 7, 2023, in the area of Anaheim Street and Pacific Avenue. Hernandez, who was experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, was also booked on suspicion of murder with bail set at $2 million.

Both suspects were charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Marshell. The motive for the attack was believed to be unprovoked.
