Gabriel Castillo, a 24-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on January 30, 2012, near Mauretania Street and Watson Avenue in Wilmington, Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County coroner's records, Castillo was one of three individuals who were shot that night. The incident occurred late Monday evening, not far from a junkyard. Alongside Castillo, Carlos Regalado, a 27-year-old Latino, was also killed, and a third person was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for
treatment. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that the three victims were walking down the street when they were shot by someone in a car. The suspects were described as two young male Hispanics driving a white, four-door, compact sport utility-type vehicle.
The investigation into the shooting explored possible gang connections, although it was unclear what specifically sparked the violence. Officer Karen Rayner and Sgt. Richard Gabaldon of the Harbor Division provided details to the media, emphasizing the limited information available at the time. The LAPD's Harbor Division urged anyone with information about the fatal shooting to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case remains unresolved. The lack of concrete leads and the potential gang-related nature of the crime have posed significant challenges to the investigation.
