Fernando Lino Ortiz III, a 26-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on March 26, 2014, near East 8th Street and Marietta Street in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Ortiz was walking through a two-story apartment complex with a woman around 3:10 p.m. when three members of the Eighth Street gang approached them.
