On June 13, 2023, 25-year-old Noah Martinez was fatally shot in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. Martinez, who had high-functioning autism, was returning home from his overnight janitorial job when the incident occurred. Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4:25 a.m. in the 3400 block of Emery Street, where they discovered Martinez deceased on the sidewalk from a gunshot wound to the head.
Martinez's family described him as a friendly and caring individual who enjoyed making others laugh. His father, Jonathan Martinez, mentioned that Noah had declined an offer for an Uber ride home from his employer that night. The family was already grieving the recent loss of another son, Andrew, who had succumbed to cancer just a month prior.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department sought the public's assistance in identifying the perpetrator. Despite canvassing the area and reviewing security footage, no arrests were made immediately following the incident. In July 2024, the Los Angeles City Council approved a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for Martinez's death.
As of December 2024, the case remains unsolved. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to Martinez's family and ensure justice is served.
