Damon Capacchione, a 38-year-old resident of Desert Hot Springs, California, tragically lost his life on April 2, 2014, as a result of a shooting incident. The events leading to his death unfolded around 6:20 p.m. in the 12700 block of Parma Drive. Capacchione was visiting a former girlfriend when an argument erupted with other individuals present at the location.
The dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation between Capacchione and Taireece Ross, a 21-year-old resident of Cathedral City. During the altercation, Ross retrieved a firearm from a truck driven by William McCrumb, a 62-year-old accomplice, and shot Capacchione. Despite being rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center, Capacchione succumbed to his injuries approximately 30 minutes later.
The investigation into Capacchione's death led to the arrest of three individuals: Taireece Ross, William McCrumb, and Tamara Lester, a 39-year-old resident of Cathedral City. Ross and McCrumb were charged with murder, while Lester faced charges of being an accessory to the crime. McCrumb also faced additional charges related to firearm offenses. All three suspects were taken into custody and held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, with Ross being held without bail, McCrumb in lieu of $1 million bail, and Lester in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Witnesses at the scene provided crucial information to the police, identifying Ross as the shooter. The firearm used in the crime was recovered by the authorities.
