Henry Estrada, a 27-year-old resident of Los Angeles, California, tragically lost his life on December 27, 2015. The incident occurred in the Hollywood Hills, where Estrada was fatally shot near the intersection of Camrose Drive and North Sycamore Avenue. According to reports, Estrada and his girlfriend had gone to a rental "party house" in the area. They were lured outside by a man through electronic communication, under the pretense of meeting someone else.
Once outside, the man confronted the couple, chased Estrada up Camrose Drive, and shot him multiple times. Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect in the case was identified as Tien Phuong Hua, a 33-year-old Vietnamese man. Hua allegedly had a prior relationship with Estrada's girlfriend, which appears to have been the motive behind the shooting. After the shooting, Hua attempted to kidnap his former girlfriend but was unsuccessful as she managed to escape. Hua then fled the scene in his car.
Two days later, on December 29, 2015, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) obtained a warrant to arrest Hua at his residence in Rosemead, California. When officers arrived to serve the warrant, Hua barricaded himself inside the house, leading to a six-hour standoff with the police. SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called to the scene in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully. However, Hua refused to surrender. Eventually, SWAT officers deployed tear gas to force him out. Hua climbed onto a storage shed in the backyard, holding an object in his hand. Despite orders to surrender, Hua pointed the object towards the officers, prompting a SWAT officer to fire his rifle, striking Hua. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Hua had an intact handgun and pieces of another handgun in his car, which were consistent with the weapon used in Estrada's murder. The tragic death of Henry Estrada and the subsequent events highlight the complexities and dangers involved in domestic disputes and law enforcement operations. The case remains a somber reminder of the impact of violence and the importance of addressing relationship issues before they escalate into tragic outcomes.
