Julio Urbina, a 31-year-old father of three, was tragically shot and killed on June 2, 2019, in Wilmington, Los Angeles. Urbina was returning home from a baby shower when he was gunned down on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of East Young Street around 1:45 a.m. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that a vehicle, possibly a dark-colored SUV, approached Urbina, and an individual exited the vehicle, fired multiple shots, and then fled the scene.
Urbina was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:15 a.m. The coroner's office confirmed the manner of death as homicide.
The investigation into Urbina's death revealed that he was not involved in any gang activities, although the area had seen recent gang-related incidents. Friends and family described Urbina as a hardworking individual who was employed at a local refinery and often traveled for work. He was a devoted family man, providing for his two young sons and his girlfriend, who was expecting their third child, a daughter, at the time of his death.
Despite the efforts of the LAPD, no arrests have been made in connection with Urbina's murder. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the case is still open. The community of Wilmington was left in shock by the senseless killing, and a GoFundMe page was established to support Urbina's family during this difficult time. The LAPD continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case, urging anyone with details to come forward.
