Richard Mendoza, a 32-year-old man from Los Angeles, California, died on August 23, 2018, following a police-involved shooting. The incident occurred during a traffic stop in North Hills on the night of July 27, 2018. Mendoza was pulled over by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers who recognized him from previous encounters. Mendoza, a documented gang member with prior convictions for narcotics sales and possession of a firearm by a felon, was on federal probation at the time.
