Jose Joel Salazar, a 22-year-old resident of Arvin, California, was reported missing on January 5, 2017. The following day, his body was discovered inside his truck, which had been abandoned in an orchard on Bear Mountain Road. The Kern County coroner's office later confirmed that Salazar had died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide. The discovery of his body marked the beginning of an intensive investigation by the Arvin Police Department.
