Jesus Estevez Martinez, a 27-year-old Latino, tragically lost his life on September 3, 2017, in Los Angeles, California. Martinez was a victim of a violent carjacking incident that escalated into a deadly shooting spree. The incident began in the West Los Angeles community of Del Rey, where Juan Saucedo, a documented gang member, allegedly shot his father, Roberto Saucedo, and his father's girlfriend after an argument.
Roberto Saucedo succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head and chest, while his girlfriend, who was shot in the face, survived and was taken to the hospital.
Following the initial shooting, Juan Saucedo fled the scene and encountered Jesus Estevez Martinez, who was parking his car to attend a family gathering. Saucedo carjacked Martinez at gunpoint, forcing him to drive away. The car was later found in Lennox, a community adjacent to Inglewood, where deputies discovered Martinez unresponsive inside his vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The violent spree did not end there. Saucedo continued his rampage, shooting another man, Arturo Pulido, in a garage in Inglewood. Pulido, a 47-year-old Latino, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Saucedo then attempted another carjacking, shooting the driver before being apprehended by deputies without further incident.
Juan Saucedo was arrested and held in lieu of $2 million bail. He was later sentenced to life without parole for the murders of Jesus Estevez Martinez, Roberto Saucedo, and Arturo Pulido, as well as the attempted murder of another individual. The motive behind Saucedo's actions remains unclear, but his violent outburst left a trail of devastation and loss in its wake.
