On September 24, 2017, Jose Escobedo Ortega, a 20-year-old resident of Pittsburg, California, was tragically shot and killed in City Park. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. while Escobedo Ortega was hanging out and listening to music. The Pittsburg Police Department responded swiftly, arriving on the scene within 90 seconds of receiving the call. Despite their immediate efforts to perform lifesaving measures, Escobedo Ortega succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
