She and her friend, Joseph Orbeso, 22, went missing in Joshua Tree National Park after embarking on a hike on July 27, 2017. Their disappearance prompted an extensive search that lasted nearly three months. On October 15, 2017, their bodies were discovered in a steep canyon within the park.
