Beatriz Guzman, a 35-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, California, tragically lost her life on March 5, 2020. The incident occurred near the Twentynine Palms Marine Base, where Guzman was found with gunshot wounds. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to multiple calls from residents reporting a man walking in the neighborhood with a gun. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Guzman lying on the roadway next to a vehicle on Power Line Road, west of Morongo Road.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified Josh Simon, a 36-year-old man from San Bernardino, as the primary suspect. Simon and Guzman were reportedly in a dating relationship, and for reasons still under investigation, Simon allegedly shot Guzman. He was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he is being held without bail.
