In the late summer of 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the life of Alvin Joseph Crosby, Jr., a 25-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, August 15, 2010, Crosby was killed, leaving behind a devastated family, including his two young children. A former football player for the Carver Rams, he was remembered as a beloved son, brother, and father who attended George W. Carver and John F.
Kennedy Senior High Schools and was employed by SDT Waste and Debris.
The circumstances of his death led to a homicide investigation and ultimately, legal proceedings. Following an indictment by a grand jury on May 5, 2011, Stanley Berniard was charged with the second-degree murder of Alvin Crosby. Berniard's trial began on October 22, 2013, and after three days of proceedings, a jury found him guilty as charged.
Following the verdict, Berniard filed motions for a post-verdict judgment of acquittal and for a new trial. However, on October 31, 2013, the trial court denied these motions and proceeded with sentencing, bringing a close to the legal battle for justice for Alvin Crosby's death.
