Stepson murdered within minutes of his stepfather In the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans, on a Sunday evening in March, the lives of a family were irrevocably shattered. On March 24, 2013, 19-year-old Gregory Charles 'G-Man' Hills was found lying face down in the middle of the 3500 block of Audubon Court. He had been shot once and was pronounced dead at the scene. The young man, known affectionately as 'G-Man' to his loved ones, was survived by a large family including his mother, two sisters, and four brothers.
In a cruel twist
of fate, Gregory's death was not the only tragedy to befall his family that night. At approximately the same time his body was discovered, a second crime scene emerged just a few blocks away at the intersection of Broadway Street and Washington Avenue. There, authorities found Gregory's stepfather, Lawrence Brown, inside his red pickup truck. He had sustained several gunshot wounds and had apparently driven a short distance before losing consciousness and crashing into a local business. Like his stepson, Lawrence Brown did not survive his injuries.
The proximity in time and location of the two slayings led investigators to believe the cases were connected. The violent deaths of both a son and his stepfather on the same evening sent shockwaves through their community. Despite the passage of time, the case officially remains open. Investigators have continued to seek possible suspects and a motive for the double homicide that claimed the lives of Gregory Hills and Lawrence Brown. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with their deaths, leaving a family to grapple with unanswered questions and the profound loss of two of its members in a single night of violence.
