On the evening of February 21, 2018, Alvin Crane, a 32-year-old resident of Antioch, California, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on the 900 block of West Third Street. Upon arrival, Antioch Police Department officers found two gunshot victims: Alvin Crane, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and an adult female who was critically wounded and transported to a local hospital.
The female victim survived but remained in critical condition for some time.
Following an extensive investigation, the Antioch Police Department identified two suspects responsible for the shooting. Felton Clifton Jr., a 29-year-old from Concord, was identified as the shooter. Clifton was arrested on May 31, 2018, in Concord. The second suspect, Kelly Corbitt, a 43-year-old from Richmond, was arrested on June 6, 2018, in Emeryville. Both Clifton and Corbitt were charged with the murder of Alvin Crane and the attempted murder of the female victim. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office filed these charges, and both suspects remained in custody awaiting trial.
The investigation revealed that Clifton had been targeting Crane for weeks before the fatal shooting. Clifton was also charged with attempting to kill Crane on January 31, 2018, just three weeks prior to the murder. The charges against Clifton and Corbitt included murder and attempted murder, and if convicted, they faced life imprisonment. The case drew significant attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the subsequent arrests, highlighting the ongoing issues of gun violence and criminal activity in the area.
