Wayne Stuart Habell, a 43-year-old Los Angeles County Fire Department captain, tragically took his own life on August 18, 2018. His body was discovered in a remote canyon near the Hot Springs Trailhead in Santa Barbara County. Habell had been reported missing a week earlier, prompting an extensive search by his family, friends, and fellow firefighters.
