Savion E.J. Hollingsworth, a 21-year-old resident of San Francisco, was tragically shot and killed on October 19, 2019, while attending a party near San Jose State University. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on the 500 block of South 10th Street. According to reports, a fight broke out at the party, which escalated to gunfire. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Hollingsworth suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Hollingsworth's death marked the 30th homicide in San Jose for the year 2019. He was remembered by family and friends as a young man with a "million-dollar smile and a billion-dollar heart." A vigil was held in his honor in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, where he grew up. Hollingsworth was a graduate of Lincoln High School in San Francisco and was attending City College of San Francisco while working as a carpenter. His family and friends shared heartfelt stories about his kindness and willingness to help others.
The investigation into Hollingsworth's murder initially did not yield any immediate suspects or motives. However, in the weeks following the incident, San Jose police identified Mahad Aweis Osman, a 20-year-old resident of San Diego, as the suspect in the shooting. Osman was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with Hollingsworth's death. The case remains a poignant reminder of the impact of gun violence on communities and the enduring pain felt by the loved ones of those lost.
