On February 18, 2020, Tyree Latrell Coleman, a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call at approximately 2:10 a.m. regarding a person screaming and multiple reports of gunshots in the area of White Avenue and Butler Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Coleman had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper torso while sitting in a parked vehicle.
He was transported to a local hospital by another male adult who was present at the scene but was not injured. Unfortunately, Coleman succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Coleman and the other individual were in a parked vehicle when another vehicle approached from the side. The suspect or suspects fired into their vehicle before fleeing the scene in a light-colored vehicle, which was seen heading westbound on Harcourt Avenue from White Avenue. The exact motive for the shooting remains unclear, and detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the investigation. As of now, there have been no arrests or suspect descriptions released.
The Long Beach Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
