Christopher Bris Treadwell, a 24-year-old rapper known by his stage name Bris, was tragically shot and killed on June 21, 2020, in Sacramento, California. Treadwell was found with a fatal gunshot wound in a crashed car outside a Jimboy's Tacos on Franklin Boulevard and Fruitridge Road. The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Treadwell, who had a growing following in Northern California's rap scene, had uploaded his last music video just five days before his death.
The investigation into Treadwell's death led to the arrest of Moses Alexander Hirschfield, a 19-year-old from Sacramento. Hirschfield was arrested on September 14, 2020, on charges of felony murder and possession of a firearm. Court records revealed that Hirschfield had a prior conviction for assault likely to produce great bodily injury, for which he was on probation at the time of Treadwell's murder. Hirschfield was arraigned on two felony counts and was ineligible for bail. The police investigation indicated that Treadwell had gone to a convenience store to buy food but turned around upon seeing Hirschfield inside. Hirschfield then pursued Treadwell in a high-speed chase that ended with Treadwell crashing his car. Hirschfield followed Treadwell to a fast-food drive-thru, where he shot him in the back of the head.
The case against Hirschfield progressed through the legal system, and he was eventually convicted of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The conviction came more than four years after Treadwell's death, with Hirschfield facing a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison. The sentencing was scheduled for August 29, 2024. The murder of Christopher Treadwell highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in Sacramento, which had seen a surge in incidents during the summer of 2020. Treadwell's death was a significant loss to the local rap community, which mourned the loss of a promising artist with much more to offer.
