On August 8, 2012, shortly before 9:00 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 5300 block of Ritterman Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Alexander lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He had already succumbed to his injuries by the time authorities reached the scene.
A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Derrick Alexander was a father of two sons, Derrick Jr. and Deandre. He was also a beloved son, brother, and uncle, and was engaged to be married. His death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, including a special friend, Carolyn Northern.
Despite the passage of time, the case surrounding Derrick Alexander's death remains an open investigation.
