Michael Joseph Rudometkin, aged 40, tragically lost his life on May 26, 2021, in a mass shooting at the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) rail yard in San Jose, California. Rudometkin was one of nine VTA employees who were fatally shot by their colleague, Samuel Cassidy. The incident occurred early in the morning when Cassidy, armed with multiple firearms, opened fire on his coworkers before taking his own life as police arrived at the scene.
