Marco Antonio Rosales, a 19-year-old resident of Bakersfield, California, tragically lost his life following a shooting incident on March 12, 2022. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the 5000 block of Belle Terrace. Rosales was found critically injured at the scene and was immediately transported to Kern Medical Center. Despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on March 17, 2022.
The shooting also left an unidentified woman seriously injured, and her condition required extensive medical treatment.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the arrest of Daniel Moran, a 28-year-old man. Moran was apprehended on March 14, 2022, and charged with two counts of attempted murder. According to the police reports, Moran had no prior history with either of the victims. Witnesses reported seeing Moran acting suspiciously in the parking lot of the apartment complex where the shooting took place. He approached a parked and running vehicle where Rosales and the woman were sleeping and fired multiple shots into the car, hitting both occupants.
The legal proceedings against Moran progressed swiftly. He pleaded no contest to first-degree murder and attempted murder charges in June 2024. Subsequently, in July 2024, Moran was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. The Kern County District Attorney's Office emphasized the senseless nature of the crime, noting that Moran's actions had irrevocably altered the lives of the victims and their families. The case highlighted the random and violent nature of the attack, as there was no known motive or prior connection between Moran and the victims.
