Gerold Lipeles, a 69-year-old homeless veteran and double amputee, was tragically shot and killed on May 17, 2022, while he was asleep in his wheelchair outside a McDonald's restaurant on West Century Boulevard in South Los Angeles. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, and Lipeles was shot in the head by a woman who approached him while he was sleeping. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries five days later.
