Charles Goodrich, a 41-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, was found dead on March 21, 1873. His brother, William Goodrich, discovered his body in the basement of his house on Degraw Street. Charles had been shot three times in the head, and his body was meticulously cleaned and posed, suggesting that the scene had been staged to look like a suicide. However, the police quickly ruled out suicide due to the nature of the wounds and the careful arrangement of the body.
