On a summer day in Brooklyn, New York, an 18-year-old male named Shamel Boomer was looking forward to a day of playing video games with his friends. On July 10, 2020, Boomer, a Black resident of Brownsville, and two of his companions checked into the Sunborn Hotel in East New York. However, this day of leisure would soon turn tragic due to a fatal encounter fueled by gang rivalry. Boomer was reportedly a member of the WOOO gang, a fact that would unfortunately seal his fate that afternoon.
