In the early 20th century, a dedicated railroad police officer lost his life in the line of duty in Lackawanna, New York. Special Officer Christopher Reynolds, a 27-year-old male, was killed on April 19, 1911. His death occurred while he was patrolling the Ridge Road Yards of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad. It is believed that he came across several men in the act of breaking into a freight car.
