Kevin “Pig” Franklin, a 23-year-old Black man from New Orleans, was killed in a daylight shooting in the city’s Mid-City area on December 27, 2014.
Just before 1 p.m., New Orleans police were called to a home in the 3500 block of D’Hemecourt Street, where he was found unresponsive on the front porch. Officers determined he had been shot in the head, and homicide detectives took over the scene as neighbors and first responders tried to make sense of a sudden, brutal loss that unfolded at midday.
Publicly released records tied the homicide to 3516 D’Hemecourt Street and listed the investigation as open, with no arrest recorded in the case entry. Police said at the time that no shooter had been identified, and they appealed for help from anyone who saw the moments before or after the gunfire, or who could name the person responsible.
In the days that followed, his family’s obituary identified him as Kevin Renee Franklin Jr., noting he was born September 19, 1991, and describing him as a devoted father and a beloved son, brother, and grandson whose death left a wide circle of relatives and friends grieving.
