On the afternoon of August 21, 1931, a violent crime spree unfolded in the Bronx, New York, culminating in the tragic death of four-year-old Gloria Lopez. The incident began around 3:45 PM when two armed men, John Brecht and Martin Bachorik, executed a payroll robbery at the Mendoza Fur and Dye Works on East 133rd Street. During the heist, Patrolman Walter J. Webb, assigned to guard the payroll, was fatally shot. The assailants fled the scene, commandeering a taxicab driven by Herbert Hasse.
