Patrol Officer David J. Tolsma, aged 32, tragically lost his life on October 20, 1977, while serving with the Cheektowaga Police Department in New York. Officer Tolsma was responding to a robbery call at a Holiday Inn hotel on Genesee Street around 1 a.m. when he was shot and killed. The suspect, a 23-year-old escapee who had been on the run for three days, was apprehended 13 hours after the incident.
