On what was supposed to be a day off, fifty-year-old Deputy Sheriff Kieran John Kenny Grant, a male officer with the Westchester County Sheriff's Department, was killed in the line of duty in Hastings-on-Hudson. An 18-year veteran of the department, Grant was serving an eviction notice at an apartment building on Southside Avenue. Because he had planned to be off that day, he was not armed and therefore unable to defend himself from the events that tragically unfolded.
