Cecil Frank Sledge, a 35-year-old police officer with the New York City Police Department, tragically lost his life on January 28, 1980, in Brooklyn, New York. Officer Sledge, who had served with the NYPD for 12 years and was assigned to the 69th Precinct, was conducting a routine traffic stop at Flatlands Avenue and 78th Street when the incident occurred.
