Waverly Lewis "Chipper" Brown, aged 45, tragically lost his life on October 20, 1981, in Nyack, New York. Brown, a dedicated police officer, was the first African American to serve in the Nyack Police Department. His death occurred during a violent confrontation with members of the domestic terrorist group, the Weather Underground, who were attempting to escape after a bank robbery.
