On a late spring evening, what began as a response to a domestic dispute call in Brooklyn tragically escalated, leading to the death of a dedicated police officer. In the early hours of Tuesday, May 30, 1989, Police Officer Jeff B. Herman and his partner were dispatched to an apartment on Hawthorne Street in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood. The call concerned a man who was menacing his ex-girlfriend, attempting to coerce her into dropping charges from a prior kidnapping arrest.
