Raymond Johnson Jr., 26, a Black man from Syracuse, New York, was driving along the 100 block of Richardson Avenue on the morning of January 8, 2010, when gunfire erupted and bullets struck his white sport utility vehicle. In the chaos that followed, the SUV veered off course, tore through a nearby backyard, and slammed into a fence, coming to rest with Johnson dead behind the wheel by the time officers reached him.
