In the early morning hours of February 3, 2014, the life of 20-year-old Marquis Brewer was tragically cut short in the Bronx, New York. The young man was found with gunshot wounds to his torso in front of the Highbridge Houses on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Emergency services rushed him to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The events leading to the shooting reportedly began with a confrontation.
Witnesses stated that Brewer had been involved in an argument with two other males. The dispute, said to have been over a dice game, escalated with fatal consequences. Following the gunshots, the two individuals fled the scene, with one of them described as wearing a green hoodie.
The investigation into the death of Marquis Brewer led to an arrest five days later. The suspect was identified as 16-year-old Jarelle Johnson. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with the shooting. Johnson had a prior criminal record which included arrests for menacing and gun possession.
