On a spring afternoon in the Bronx, the life of 30-year-old Robert Corbett was violently cut short. On April 15, 2014, just before noon, Corbett was shot multiple times in his torso on a street near Crotona Park East. The attack happened at 2375 Southern Blvd., a location only about a mile from his own home. Responders rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead approximately half an hour after the shooting.
At the scene of the crime,
investigators recovered ten shell casings, indicating the intensity of the assault. The immediate aftermath of the shooting sent ripples of concern through the West Farms neighborhood. The New York Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation, and their initial efforts focused on finding four individuals who were believed to have been involved in the fatal encounter. The group of suspects was described as consisting of three men and one woman.
As the investigation progressed, authorities began to close in on those they believed were responsible for Robert Corbett's death. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of three men. These individuals were identified as Darrell 'D-Block' Evans, who was 23 years old at the time of the incident, Tyshaun 'Tye' Smith, then 26, and Dwayne 'D-Rock' Reeves, who was 25. Each of the three men faced serious charges for their alleged roles in the killing.
The legal proceedings against the trio brought to light more details of the tragic event. Ultimately, the three suspects were tried and convicted for their involvement in the murder of Robert Corbett. Following their convictions, they were sentenced for the crime. Darrell Evans and Tyshaun Smith each received sentences of 25 years to life in prison. Dwayne Reeves was sentenced to serve 15 years to life in prison for his part in the murder.
