On a tragic summer day in Palenville, New York, 49-year-old Pammi Mroczek's life was cut short in a shocking act of violence. On August 10, 2014, Pammi and her boyfriend, 51-year-old Daniel Brennan, were fatally shot by her estranged husband, Robert Mroczek.
The violent encounter took place at the Pennsylvania Avenue home of Robert Mroczek, a veteran state parole officer. He first shot Daniel Brennan multiple times in the driveway before turning the 9mm handgun on Pammi, who was found deceased in the foyer of the home. Neighbors, alarmed by the sound of gunshots, promptly alerted the authorities by calling 911.
Following the killings, Robert Mroczek fled the scene in his vehicle, leading to a high-speed police chase that spanned over 100 miles. The pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph as it moved from the initial crime scene into Broome County and then Cortland County. Law enforcement eventually deployed a spike strip on Interstate 81 in the town of Cortlandville to bring the chase to an end. As troopers approached the now-stopped vehicle, they discovered that Robert Mroczek had taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. State Police later confirmed that there had been no prior history of police calls to the Mroczek residence in Palenville.
