On a late Tuesday afternoon in August 2014, the sounds of children playing on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island were shattered by the crackle of gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 21-year-old Ronnell Bradley was left lying on the pavement outside a bodega, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The brazen daytime shooting occurred just a block from his home, shocking the Brooklyn neighborhood.
