In the early summer of 1980, a 23-year-old woman named Roxane Easland vanished from the streets of Anchorage, Alaska. She was last seen on the afternoon of June 28, 1980. For the two weeks prior to her disappearance, Roxane had been staying with her boyfriend at the Budget Motel on Spenard Road. On the day she went missing, she reportedly had plans to meet an unidentified man on 4th Avenue in the downtown area. After that planned meeting, she was never heard from or seen again, leaving behind a void of information and a case that would grow cold but not forgotten. A friend officially reported Roxane missing on July 2, 1980, using one of her aliases, Karen Lee Baunsgard. Her friends grew worried when they hadn't seen or heard from her in the days following her intended meeting downtown. At the time of her disappearance, Roxane was described as a white female, standing between 5'2" and 5'4" tall and weighing between 90 and 105 pounds. She had shoulder-length, straight brown hair and brown eyes. Distinctive features included two birthmarks, one on the top of her right thigh and another on her shoulder. When she was last seen, she was wearing a short, brown leather coat with a fur collar, pants, and black high-heeled boots. She also occasionally wore wire-framed glasses and may have been carrying a purse. The investigation into Roxane's disappearance eventually pointed to a deeply disturbing conclusion. Authorities came to believe she was a victim of the notorious serial killer Robert Hansen, known as the "Butcher Baker". Hansen, who preyed on women in the Anchorage area for over a decade, confessed in 1984 to murdering 17 women. He specifically acknowledged that Roxane Easland was one of his victims. Despite his confession and leading authorities to various grave sites, Roxane's remains have never been recovered. The case is a haunting one, as she is one of several women linked to Hansen whose bodies were never found, leaving her family without closure. Foul play is strongly suspected in her disappearance, which is now classified as a suspected homicide, tragically intertwined with the violent crimes of one of Alaska's most infamous killers.
