In the early hours of New Year's Day 2016, 32-year-old Linda Louise Skeek was last seen at her home in Anchorage, Alaska. A member of the Tlingit tribe, Linda had moved to Anchorage from Juneau with her husband, Thomas Skeek Jr., and their children just a few months prior. That night, her husband stated they had gone to several bars, with him and their children waiting in the car while she went inside. He reported that after they returned home around 1:00 a.m., they had a verbal altercation when he prevented her from taking the car keys to go out again. According to her husband, Linda then left the residence on foot at approximately 2:30 a.m. She was reportedly wearing a black coat, a red vest, and a red skirt, and was only carrying her ID and a small amount of cash. Three days later, on January 4, after Linda failed to show up for her job at the NANA Regional Corporation, her husband reported her missing, an action prompted by Linda's concerned foster mother. While Linda had a history of leaving for short periods, her family said she always stayed in contact and would return by Sunday to be ready for work on Monday. The marriage between Linda and Thomas was known to be tumultuous. Just months before her disappearance, Linda had filed for a protective order against her husband for herself and their two young children, citing physical assault, though she withdrew the petition ten days later. Friends and family also revealed that Linda was having an affair and had expressed her desire to divorce her husband. As the investigation progressed, the circumstances of her disappearance grew more suspicious. On January 20, 2016, police conducted a search of the Skeek's home and vehicle. Following the search, which reportedly uncovered blood evidence and signs of a cleanup, Thomas Skeek Jr. was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and tampering with evidence in connection with his wife's disappearance. Despite the charges and the ongoing suspicion from Linda's family, Thomas Skeek Jr. was acquitted of all charges in March 2019 after a trial where his defense argued there was insufficient evidence to prove Linda was deceased or that he was responsible. Linda Skeek's body has never been found, and her case remains a painful and unresolved mystery for her loved ones and the community. The overview of the case is one of a loving mother whose disappearance after a reported argument with her husband led to a murder trial, but ultimately ended without conviction, leaving her family with no answers and her whereabouts unknown.
