In the winter of 2014, a tragic event unfolded in Buffalo, NY, that ended the life of 28-year-old Denell A. Baker. On the evening of December 28th, at the intersection of East North Street and Jefferson Avenue, a fatal shooting occurred. Deshawn Harris, a 28-year-old from Buffalo, was identified as the individual who fatally shot Baker.
The events following the shooting were grim, as the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Jordan Hicks of Buffalo, drove away from the scene with Baker's body still inside the car. The body was later left on Peach Street. An investigation by the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Detectives led them to the individuals responsible for Denell Baker's death.
In a subsequent and unrelated traffic stop, Jordan Hicks was found to be in possession of the weapon used in the murder. This discovery was a crucial piece of evidence in the case against him. For his involvement, Hicks pleaded guilty to Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. In June 2016, he was sentenced to nine years in jail, to be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
