In the early hours of a Monday morning in Brooklyn, a burst of violence cut short the life of Harold Abodia. On July 13, 2015, the 22-year-old male was shot in the head and hand in front of an apartment building at 585 E. 21st Street, near Ditmas Avenue. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m., shattering the quiet of the neighborhood.
The investigation into Abodia's death led to the arrest of 18-year-old Migly Jean-Jacquez.
He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The case then moved through the legal system, culminating in a jury trial in Kings County.
Following the trial, on March 14, 2018, Migly Jean-Jacquez was convicted of manslaughter in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, lesser charges than the initial murder accusation. He later appealed this decision, but the judgment was ultimately affirmed, with a modification to vacate the mandatory surcharge and fees.
