Jit Mongar, 38, a man from Rochester, New York, stepped out late on July 19, 2015 for something ordinary—stopping at a convenience store on Lake Avenue—before the night turned violent. He was a refugee from Nepal, trying to build a steady life for his wife and seven children after resettling in the United States.
