In the early morning hours of September 26, 2015, tragedy struck in the lobby of a building at the Alfred E. Smith Houses on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Nathaniel Szeto, a 19-year-old male, was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound. The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. near Catherine Slip and Water Street.
