Deborah Roman, a 44-year-old English teacher from Latham, NY, tragically lost her life on February 9, 2016, in a murder-suicide orchestrated by her husband, Israel Roman. Israel, a Colonie police officer, fatally shot Deborah and their 10-year-old son, Nathan, before setting their house on fire and turning the gun on himself. The incident occurred shortly after their younger son arrived home from school, while their older son, Noah, was at a high school basketball game.
