In the early morning hours of St. Patrick's Day in 2016, a burst of violence on Germania Avenue in Schenectady claimed the life of Andre Dewayne Lee. Born on July 7, 1986, the 30-year-old male was struck by several bullets. He was rushed to Ellis Hospital, but the severity of his wounds proved fatal, and he succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the second fatal shooting on that same street that year, leaving a community unsettled and a family grieving the sudden and violent loss of a
young man.
For more than seven years, the case of Andre Lee's death remained officially unsolved, though investigators had identified a primary suspect early in their inquiry. That suspect, Camare Williams, had managed to elude authorities. The breakthrough in the long-stalled case finally came in August of 2023. During a routine traffic stop in Middletown, Orange County, police pulled over a vehicle in which Williams was a passenger. A check for outstanding warrants revealed his connection to the Schenectady homicide, leading to his immediate arrest.
With Williams in custody, the wheels of justice began to turn. He was charged with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors have suggested a motive rooted in a prior dispute, alleging that Williams held Lee responsible for an earlier incident that included an attempted stabbing and shots fired into the home Williams shared with his girlfriend. The trial against Camare Williams was scheduled to begin with jury selection in December 2024, nearly nine years after Andre Lee's life was cut short.
